WUOC Sprint

My Race

The first race of this competition week is over. I managed to do a good race in the Sprint and finished on the 23rd spot. On the last interesting leg to the second last control I was „trapped“ by the organizers – at least I think so… When I planned the route I just saw the big urban area under the line and the right and the left option. After leaving the control I noticed the impassable fence which was across the road on the left side, turned to the right, noticed the very left „real“ route and turned arround again. Looking at the split times it seems I’ve lost about 15-20 seconds there, in addition to to a (smart?) save and a little bit insecure start and better routes to 5(right), 12 and 14 (straight) I’ve lost about 30 seconds on the whole course but still I consider the race as a good one. It could easyly have been a very good one without the last bigger mistake.
Some of my teammates are having problems with their stomache and Bindis race was influenced by it as well. He finished on the 39 position and Wolfgang Kampel achieved a 58 spot. Our girls finished on 48th (Uschi), 59th (Anita) and 60th (Karin) position.
Now one rest day (cheering for Anita, Karin, Usch, Wolfi, Kerschi, Markus and Wolfi at the Long Distance) is waiting for me and I will try to be back well on track on Friday for the Middle Distance.
