Alpe Adria Cup
The three indivicual competitons (Sprint-Short, Austrian Middle Championships and Long) in the beginning of May were also WOC and WUOC selection races which made me take part in all three of them – otherwise I would only have taken part in the first two events. The Sprint was the first race on Thursday and was held on the top of the Schöckl which is the famous mountain close to Graz. The area was semi-open and I managed to do an OK race where I mainly lost physically an was 6th of the Austrian runners. Oh Friday, the day of the relay I had to visit the university for a lecture and didn’t take part. I was back on Saturday for the Austrian Middle Championships. This competitons was on the slope down from the Schöckl in the same area as the Austrian Academic Championships 2006 were held. The start was more than 100 m higher than the finish and I enjoyed the downhill a lot. On the first part of the race I was very well on track, even close to a podium position but some uphills and mistakes finally put me back on the 7th spot of the Austrian runners (12th overall). The final Long Distance race was by far my worst competition, I was really tired and the long distance with numerous uphills were simply too much on that day.

Thermenlandopen
This years Thermenlandopen was held arround Murska Sobotka and included a Sprint, Long and Middle Distance race where I only took part in the Sprint. In addition a prolog was held arround the spa in Loipersdorf which was also a Sprint race with an orient-show as a final competition for the top 6 of the Sprint. Despite lacking some aggressiveness during the Sprint race my race was good and I finished as 4th. It was even better than I expected even if the margin to the fastest time of Kerschi was very big. The best was I could enjoy a start in the orient-show and that was really good news.
The orient-show race was even better, I was on the lead out of the first part of the course which consisted of thrre butterfly loops, entered the second butterfly as last runner , could gain some positions and finished as second due to the reason that Andi Müller had one control wrong and got a penalty of 30 seconds. Winning two days in the spa made the second place even sweeter.

WOC Sprint Spectator
Watching the Sprint Qualification and Sprint Final in Olomouc I could feel that the orienteering virus was still running through my venes which was also because the organizers managed to present the race in a very exciting way. Only one Austrian runner managed to qualify for the Final which was a small disappoiintment. Still Kerschi managed to show a excellent performance in the Final and made the few Austrian fans cheer for his performance – the 9th spot. I took some photos during the Qualification race which are presented in three galeries.

WUOC Day 1
It’s already the day of the Sprint when I write this letters here. In less than two hours my start will be and I’m really waiting for it. Yesterdays Model Event and the opening ceremony were a lot of fun and the Model Event brought some memories of the Long Distance of the JWOC 2003 back up in my mind as it was held on the same map. Todays sprint will pretty open and fast – at least I hope so... ;o)
