Rumours, Holidays And My Last Training Weeks
Despite a report in the ÖFOL (Austrian Orienteering Federation) newspaper I’m still a member of the army sportsmen team. I have to admit that I’ve signed my ejection which will take place on the 30th November of this year but till then I’m still here doing my job in Seebenstein. The move out of the army comes after more than five years in the supportive system of the army and is due to the fact that I feel that I need some fresh input into my life. I’ll be moving to Vienna and focus a bit more on my studies. The rest is undetermined so far. J
Due to my easily darkened skin I’ve been asked about my “holidays” frequently in the weeks. Well, there were no holidays, it’s just me…J
On contrary I’ve been training very well and pretty much in the last weeks maybe the training summary underlines that.

Trainingcamp in Carinthia
I had the chance to spend the last week with Markus Buchtele (U23 Coach) in Klagenfurt and do a lot of excellent trainings. Most training sessions were running sessions but there were also three interesting O-trainings, two MTB tours and one mountain tour (which could also be nearly called mountain race!) with Karl Belzik (Ironman Klagenfurt: 8:59) and Felix Meizer.
The goal of the mountain tour was the Ferlacher Horn with 1840m and we started down in Ferlach at about 500m sea level. The name of the path up the mountain didn’t promise too much – Raketensteig (could be translated by “rocketpath”, ”rocketclimb”, ”rocketascent” or similar words). After a really very steep first part the track flattened out a bit and allowed us to run up most of the remaining distance. After one hour and forty minutes we captured the top and signed ourselves into the summit book. Short after the start of the descent heavy rain started and we were happy when we arrived at the car again after totally three hours.
The O-trainings I did were pretty short but the demanding ground vegetation made them perfect short distance trainings at high speed, exactly what I was looking for. So far the preparation for the CISM has really been very well and I hope that that won’t change during this week. I’ll be watching two competitions of the military pentathlon competitions in Wr. Neustadt this week (obstacle swimming and obstacle running) but this won’t compromise any of my planned training. A good week is about to come!!
